You know it's cold when...

...your vehicle growls and then screams at when you try to start it.

...If it does start, it refuses to blow warm air even though you've let "warm up" for 20 minutes.

..."number of seconds until skin freezes" becomes part of the local weather forecast.

...the St. Paul Winter Carnival shortens the length of its parade.

...exhaling creates frost on male facial hair.

...boogers freeze deep within the nose upon contact with outside air.

...you don't care how your hat made your hair look.

...not getting frost bit is cause for celebration.

...you say how many degrees below zero it is and then have to clarify it with, "and that's not including the wind chill."

...a Minnesotan says it is.

I woke up to 26 below zero - without the wind chill - I'd say it's a tad chilly.

ahem, noticing that it is cold and describing it in dramtic terms is only a negative thing if you are from the South. I love it here.

It's not the cold in and of itself, but rather it is the multiple opportunites to enjoy the sharp contrasts.

This morning it was 22 degrees warmer than yesterday morning, but still 4 below zero. I swear to you it felt good. I shoveled the beautiful snow off my driveway and felt good doing it.

Cold for cold sake is insanity, but appreciating that which cold allows is priceless. Warming up is a wonderful feeling, but you can't do it without getting cold.

I think there is a sermon in here somewhere.

Hi, Chris - this is Annette Hudson - I asked Tammy about you and she gave me your blog. I promise you I'm not as bad as Bob in "What About Bob? I enjoyed your cold weather post - my daughter Natalie might be moving to St. Paul. Yikes, I grew up in Florida! It sounds like you're doing good and I will try to read your stuff from time to time.
